Auto Transport Top Tips: Preparing your Car for Spring
Winter is almost coming to an end. The harsh weather conditions could take a toll on your car. As the snow melts and the weather turns warmer, it is best to do a few steps in keeping your car in good shape, just like what you did before winter. It takes only a few simple steps to care for your prized possession this coming springtime.
Read on to know more:
1. Spring cleaning the inside and outside of your car.
It might sound cliché, but cleanliness is truly next to godliness. And a clean car is almost as good as a new car.
Cleaning the exterior and interior of your car is the first step to caring for its whole being. Through cleaning, you might be able to spot a few defects on your car’s outer and inner body.
Winter brings a lot of weight into your car, including the snow, dirt and extra supplies inside it. Make sure to give it a good wash and wax session. Then, you can remove the floor mats that are surely filled with mud and dirt from the snowy days. You can also get rid of the winter gear that occupies extra space in the trunk.
2. Cleaning the underbody.
The harsh winter roads probably brought some extra dirt underneath your car. The accumulated sand, salt or grime can cause the underbody to erode. It is a great idea to have your car’s undercarriage to get a thorough wash in a car wash or by using your own pressurized garden hose and soapy water.
Skipping this step can lead to rust and corrosion. Once this happens, the car may be dangerous to drive or lose its value for resale.
3. Checking the brakes.
The harsh road conditions can also affect the integrity of your brakes. The accumulated debris on your metal brakes can cause corrosion and even serve as a barrier between the frame and pads. This can prevent brake pads from working properly.
You can have your brakes checked while changing your tires at the car service center.4. Removing the winter tires.
Winter tires are necessary for your safety during winter driving to give you extra traction and grip. Once the weather starts to warm up to a certain temperature, you can already remove these winter tires and change back to your normal tires.
5. Checking the tire pressure.
This one is not a seasonal step. Checking the tire pressure is something that car owners must do regularly. Every season has different temperatures that could affect the tire pressure. Have someone check the tire pressure for you or you can learn how to do it through some research. Doing this can save you money from replacing a blown tire.
During this step, you can also check your tires wear and tear. Have your tires rotated for even wear.
6. Checking the tire alignment.
Winter roads are notorious for potholes and these could take a toll on your cars alignment. Spring is the best time to have your tire alignment checked. You can also have your tires rotated.
7. Checking the fluids.
Wiper fluid can easily be depleted during the winter. It will cost a minimal fee to have it replaced in a service center. Also have your oil, transmission and brake fluids regularly and not seasonally. This will keep your car up and running very well.
8. Replacing the wiper blades.
Wiper blades are working most of the time during the winter months keeping snow away from the windshield. It is recommended to change your wiper blades during spring and fall. It wouldn’t cost you much. It is just a small investment for the overall health of your car.
9. Inspect the whole car.
Have a checklist of what you need to inspect. Thorough inspection means each and every part of your car is checked. Some important parts that you need to look into are belts and hoses.
You can also check if the rubber parts are still intact. Gaskets and seals are also important to inspect in order to prevent leaks. Doing a thorough inspection can save you money on car servicing.
10. Get it ready for the next ride and fire it up.
It is finally time to remove the baking soda, mothballs and cover from your car. It is time to admire the well-maintained car that you have. You can finally congratulate yourself for keeping it neat and protected during the winter.
It is time to let it breathe and smell the spring breeze. Roll down the windows and let it breathe in some fresh air.
Then, you can now turn the key and fire up the engine. Let it run idle for about ten minutes to listen to the engine. You can have an idea if it actually survived the rough months. You can also check if all of the lights are working.
11. Drive it and enjoy your car with nice weather.
Finally, take your car for a spin. This will give you a better look at how it drives. You can easily detect if it has a problem or not. If you see that it is driving rough, you can bring it to the service center early and prevent further damage and expenses.
If your car is driving smoothly, well you can now enjoy a nice drive and enjoy the pleasant weather and surroundings. Appreciate your car and the beautiful spring while it lasts. It will be just a few days and it is winter once again!
