    What is St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated yearly every 17th of March. It is to commemorate St. Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saint. It is also a celebration of Irish-American culture in the U.S.

St. Patrick’s Day is fixed on March 17th. Though it may sometimes be moved by the Catholic Church if it would fall on the same week as lent.

St. Patrick’s symbol is a shamrock. A shamrock is the leaf of a clover plant which symbolizes the Holy Trinity.

Other symbols may include serpents, snakes, harp or a leprechaun with a pot of gold.

It is also represented by green color. The flag of Ireland is a combination of green, orange, and white.

Though not an official public holiday, some schools and businesses are closed (in Massachusetts) because it falls on the same date as the Evacuation Day.

Because it is not a federal holiday, most businesses and schools are open. Transport systems are also available although traffic may be affected by parades.
